Welcome!
I’m Sara.

I’m an author, speaker, business owner, wife, boy mom/sarcasm interpreter, and organization nerd. I think it’s important to state upfront that “nerd” is a term of endearment in our home. It’s taken me years to embrace my inner-geek and I am super proud of it!

In fact, my uber-nerdiness is what prompted me to start helping other disability parents and caregivers like you! There is so much in this disability-parenting life that needs to be dealt with that we often lose our own identity juggling everything. We forget who we are. We forget that joy is possible.

My Story

In 2012 our youngest son was diagnosed with an aggressive, progressive, and fatal form of muscular dystrophy called Duchenne. All of a sudden, I was a mom of a child with a terminal disease. I was a mom of a child who would eventually have profound medical needs. I was a disability parent.

Everything about this life was new to me. After months of overwhelming sadness, grief over what will never be, fear of his future, and the endless trudging through the messy swamp of all things medical, we decided that the diagnosis was not going to define our family.

We refuse to let the terminal disease turn into a terminal existence. My family deserves more. And yes, I deserve more.

Let’s be real though, it all can be overwhelming. I know I’d erase my son’s diagnosis if I could. But I firmly believe that we are on this path for a profound purpose – if we claim it. Building a firm foundation on how to deal with the details of this life is crucial. I would love to help you find the space – organizationally, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually – to embrace this amazing life.

It’s a Lifestyle

About Me

I have been married to my high school sweetheart for over 25 years. My husband Craig, our two amazing sons, and I live in the beautiful Midwest. If there is anything you can say about our family, it is that we love to laugh. They are my people.

Since working outside the home was near impossible for me, I started my own online operational management/virtual assistance business back in 2015. I take care of all things organization, systems, and processes for clients. I get paid to utilize my geekiness! (And I LOVE it!) You can check out my biusiness page HERE.

Randomness

I often get a “wild hair” to try new things; my husband is great about humoring me and going along for the ride!

I cannot carry a tune. Seriously, I’m horrible. But that doesn’t stop me from joining in, especially if it embarrasses my children.

I. Hate. Feet. I mean I simply cannot stand feet. Have you ever really taken the time to look at them? They’re so awkward. That is why a good pair of shoes is so important in life.

Laughter is truly a cleanser for my soul. I love to laugh and find the joy in all I do. Life was meant to be fun.

I was brought up with pretty much all girls in my family. Now I live with all boys. That, I believe, is the definition of karma.

Traveling is the best education. Nothing teaches us more about the world than traveling to new destinations, trying new things, seeing new things, learning new cultures, celebrating different lifestyles, and exploring new places.

Learning a new word is extremely exciting to me! (I did mention I am a nerd, right?!)
